Operators of Italian online music pirate sites were ordered to forfeit more than $3.3 million after a copyright infringement investigation, the International Federation for the Phonographic Industry said. The ruling by a Milan judge followed legal proceedings related to several Web sites that were used to offer unlicensed music for unlawful downloading, it said. The probe led to charges against more than 50 people throughout the country, but it was dropped when the statute of limitations expired, the IFPI said. The Judge for Preliminary Investigations, however, decided that the case had been proved and ordered the seizure and destruction of the computers used and forfeiture of the money previously frozen by public prosecutors, it said.
