After multiple quarters of lower videogame sales, Toys “R” Us reported late last week that sales in the category jumped 14.4% in its first quarter ended April 30. The company said overall sales increased 3.6% to $2.13 billion, but its loss widened to $41 million (19 cents per share) from $28 million (13 cents) a year ago.
Civil liberties advocates are suing Utah over a law that makes ISPs offer to block websites the state attorney general’s office considers pornographic. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Utah is seeking an injunction in U.S. Dist. Court, Salt Lake City, in its complaint charging that the law violates residents’ rights to free expression and unlawfully interferes with interstate commerce, the group said Thurs. The complaint argues that the law seeks to give the govt. a responsibility that belongs to parents.

The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements (CITA) has posted to its web site updated preliminary textile and apparel import data for 2005, which now covers the 2005 period from approximately March 2005 to June 4, 2005.
CBP has issued its weekly quota commodity report as of June 6, 2005. This report includes tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) on various products such as beef, tuna, sugar, dairy products, peanuts, cotton, cocoa powder, tobacco, certain JFTA, NAFTA, SFTA, UAFTA and UCFTA TRQs, etc. This report also includes the AGOA, ATPDEA, CBTPA, NAFTA, SFTA, and UCFTA tariff preference levels (TPLs) for qualifying apparel and/or other textile articles, the TRQs on worsted wool fabrics, etc. (CBP's weekly quota commodity report, dated 06/06/05, available at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/textiles_and_quotas/commodity/ )
The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued the preliminary results of its second antidumping (AD) and countervailing (CV) duty administrative reviews for certain softwood lumber products from Canada.
Pursuant to the Continued Dumping and Subsidy Offset Act of 2000 (the Offset Act), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a notice in the Federal Register of its intent to distribute assessed antidumping (AD) or countervailing (CV) duties for fiscal year (FY) 2005 to affected domestic producers for certain qualifying expenditures they incur after the issuance of an AD or CV order. Written certifications to obtain a continued AD or CV offset under a particular order must be received by August 1, 2005.
| Preliminary Results of AD Duty Changed Circumstances ReviewThe International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued its preliminary results of the antidumping (AD) duty changed circumstances review of certain hot-rolled carbon steel flat products from Romania.These preliminary results are not in effect and the current requirements for a cash deposit of estimated AD duties on subject merchandise will continue unless and until these requirements are modified pursuant to the final results of this AD duty changed circumstances review. The ITA adds that it will issue the final results of this AD duty changed circumstances review no later than 270 days after May 9, 2005 or within 45 days of May 13, 2005 if all parties agree to the ITA's preliminary finding.The ITA states that it preliminarily finds that Mittal Steel Galati S.A. (Mittal) is the successor-in-interest to S.C. Ispat Sidex S.A. (Sidex), and if these preliminary results are made final, Mittal would be entitled to receive Sidex's cash deposit rate of 16.34% with respect to entries of subject merchandise from Romania.The ITA's notice also serves as the initiation notice for this AD duty changed circumstances review.ITA sources have confirmed that S.C.
