The Commerce Department is beginning an antidumping duty investigation on imports of large residential washers from China, it said in a fact sheet released Jan. 6 (here). Whirlpool requested the investigations on Dec. 16 (see 1512160015), alleging that, following the imposition of antidumping and countervailing duty orders on large residential washers from South Korea and Mexico, South Korean producers moved production to China and resumed dumping. The International Trade Commission is scheduled to make its preliminary injury determination by Feb. 1. These AD/CV duty investigations will only continue if the ITC finds injury. ITT will provide more details upon publication of the initiation notice in the Federal Register.

The Commerce Department is extending until March 28 the deadline for its preliminary determination in the countervailing duty investigation on circular welded carbon-quality steel pipe from Pakistan (C-535-904) (here). The domestic manufacturers that requested the investigation asked for the extension. The preliminary determination was originally due Jan. 21. Cash deposits of estimated CV duties can only be collected after the preliminary determination, although cash deposits can be made retroactive 90 days from the preliminary determination if Commerce finds “critical circumstances.”
