The “digital TV transition team” is part of a push to ensure people aren’t caught off-guard by the analog cutoff in Feb. 2009, said NAB Exec. Vp Dennis Wharton: “We want to make sure there is not some sort of revolt on the part of the consuming public because they haven’t been educated on what the consequences are of this transition.”
Rogers added more basic-cable and VoIP customers in 2006 than in 2005, it said, releasing preliminary numbers. In 2006 it gained 13,300 basic subscribers, 45% more than in 2005. As of Dec. 31, Rogers had 2.28 million such subscriptions. VoIP additions in 2006 rose about sixfold, by 318,000, from a year earlier. Rogers has 365,900 such customers. But broadband growth slowed 24% in 2006, giving the company 1.29 million customers total.
