A day ahead of the iPhone 6 release, Sprint said it will offer the 6s 16 GB phone for $1/month and the 6s Plus for $5/month with the trade-in of an iPhone 6. The promotion, part of Sprint’s iPhone Forever program, is for customers who “can’t wait to get their hands on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus,” and is available to new and upgrade-eligible Sprint customers, the carrier said. Offers also extend to higher-capacity phones: the iPhone 6s is priced $5.77/month for the 64 GB and $10.53 for the 128 GB with the trade-in of an iPhone 6. For the 6s Plus, the 64 GB version is $9.77/month and the 128 GB device is $14.53/month with corresponding trade-ins, Sprint said. Sprint will also offer a $10/month price on iPhone 6s 16 GB or $14/month on iPhone 6s Plus 16 GB with the trade-in of an iPhone 5s, it said. Through Dec. 31, customers on any other carrier who switch to Sprint -- or existing Sprint customers who are upgrade-eligible and turn in any other smartphone -- will get a promotional rate of $15 per month on the iPhone 6s 16 GB, regularly $22/month without a trade, it said.
Staples is holding free printing events this week at New York City-area retail stores to demo Epson’s new EcoTank printers. Seventeen Staples stores will hold the events during the two-day promotion, with five Manhattan stores offering free printing 11 a.m-3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, while 12 stores in New York City suburbs will hold the events 11 a.m.-8 p.m. over the two days, Staples said. Consumers can print photographs, documents and other materials on the EcoTank printers. Staples didn’t spell out restrictions on printing in an emailed news release. Epson introduced the new line of printers this summer (see 1508040044) that range in price from $379 to $1,179. With the higher-priced printers, Epson is looking to change the model of consumer-based printing, with ink in the new devices held in long-lasting tanks that have an estimated two-year lifecycle, Epson told us. The model ensures that the printer maker doesn’t lose money if a consumer buys a sub-$100 printer and then doesn’t print a lot -- or prints only in black -- to save money on expensive cartridges, Epson said at the printer launch event. Staples didn't immediately respond to questions on plans for events in other markets.
