CBP is extending the comment period to June 12 for an existing information collection on ship's stores declarations. CBP proposed to extend the expiration date of this information collection without a change to the burden hours or to the information collected.
CBP donated some 17,000 pairs of counterfeit Timberland shoes and boots to World Vision International, the agency said in a press release. All the items were seized by CBP at the Port of New York/Newark, it said. The total estimated domestic value of the items is $722,824, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of more than $2 million. Last fiscal year, CBP and trademark holders donated merchandise valued at over one million dollars to charities and relief efforts all over the world, the agency said.
CBP will add five additional free trade agreements (FTAs) that importers can claim post-importation preferential tariff treatment on, the agency said in a general notice. The additional agreements to be included in the reconciliation pilot are: U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement (OFTA), the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (PTPA), the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (UKFTA), the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement (CTPA), and the U.S.-Panama Trade Promotion (PANTPA), said CBP. Reconciliation entries for imports from the new FTAs will be available Aug. 12, said CBP.

CBP posted a May 6 version of its CF 1400 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Entrances) electronic query report of the Vessel Management System (VMS), in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by entrances. A blended syrup consisting of mostly Brazilian cane sugar with some U.S. corn syrup does not undergo a substantial transformation, because it remains a sugar syrup, said CBP in a classification and country of origin ruling. Therefore, the country of origin of the product is Brazil, it said.
Customs Rulings Online Search System (CROSS) was updated May 6. The corresponding downloadable rulings are now available.
CBP plans to hold another Webinar focused on developing continuing education requirements for customs brokers on June 6, the agency said in a CSMS message. CBP will answer questions and give further clarifications on the initiative. CBP recently outlined plans for customs broker continuing education rules that would require brokers to complete 40 hours of education every three years to maintain an active license (see [Ref:13050222).
CBP released a Final Record of Decision (ROD) and some technical corrections to its Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for its Northern Border Activities. The ROD and corrections complete CBP's assessment potential environmental and socioeconomic effects associated with its ongoing and potential future activities along the border between the U.S. and Canada, covering about 4,000 miles from Maine to Washington and 100 miles south of the U.S.-Canada Border. The final ROD includes some changes that are a result of comments received on the draft ROD (see [Ref:12072610).
The Generalized Systems of Preferences (GSP) and Andean trade preference programs (ATPA/ATPDEA) are set to expire July 31, CBP said in messages posted on the website. "CBP has no information as to whether or not these preference programs will be renewed, and if they are renewed, whether there will be a lapse period, or whether there will be a retroactive clause providing for a refund of claims made during such a period," it said. "To receive the most timely information, you should consult the trade press, your business contacts and the Federal Register preview site."
