A federal jury in Port Huron unanimously said there's no basis for liability on the part of two female CBP Officers, refusing to award any damages to Canadian citizen Loretta Van Beek, who claimed they engaged in an unreasonable search and inappropriate touching. The two-year-old suit alleged that the officers violated Van Beek's Fourth Amendment rights.
CBP's C-TPAT reached a total of 10,572 certified partners by July 1, according to CBP's July achievements report. Staffing level reached 154 and there were 327 Tier 3 importers, it said. A total of 23,054 validations were completed, including 11,928 initial validations and 11,126 revalidations. There were a total of 1,659 suspensions and 1,211 removals, CBP said.
CBP posted an updated table listing the key process improvements envisioned for the end-state ACE Cargo Release Inventory. The list includes single window for imports, continued flow of trade during emergencies, automated updates to previously filed import data, enhanced tracking of non-compliant cargo to government custody, expedited entry process for trusted traders, enhanced entry processing for CBP officers, and automated filing and sufficiency checks for customs bonds.

CBP officers seized alleged marijuana valued at more than $2.7 million at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge's import lot June 29, CBP said. The marijuana was found in a Freightliner tractor and utility trailer at the cargo facility, containing 350 packages commingled within the close to 1,000 boxes of Serrano peppers. The packages had a total weight of 2,732.6 pounds of alleged marijuana, with an estimated street value of about $2,732,600. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the tractor-trailer.
CBP noted that the FDA has end-dated some Affirmation of Compliance (AofC) codes, so they're no longer available for use. Use of the following codes will result in a reject, CBP said in a CSMS message:
CBP said its Harmonized System Update (HSU) 1303 was created July 1, containing 1,303 ABI records and 190 harmonized tariff records. The update contains modifications made as a result of the June 27 Presidential Proclamation 8997, To Modify Duty-Free Treatment to the Generalized System of Preferences and for Other Purposes (see 13070202). It said changes also include those mandated by the 484 F Committee, Committee for Statistical Annotation of Tariff Schedules, effective July 1. Adjustments required by the verification of the 2013 Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) are also included, CBP said in a CSMS message.
