CBP and the Consumer Product Safety Commission worked together to prevent the entry of playground equipment found to have too much lead paint, said CBP in a press release (here). A shipment of children's diggers sent through the Port of Savannah from East Asia was stopped and seized after the CPSC asked for examination, said CBP. CPSC laboratory found dangerous levels of lead paint covering the toys, said CBP. The shipment was estimated to be worth over $38,000, CBP said.
CBP posted a document spelling out the use of CBP Form 5106 (Importer ID Input Record) as it relates to eBond (here). While the form is no longer required as part of the Bond Package as of Jan. 3, the start date of CBP's testing of the centralized eBond system (see 1411260026), "there are situations in which a Surety/Surety Agent, Broker or Importer will be required to submit a CBP Form 5106 to Revenue Division Bond Team," said CBP. Though CBP recently requested comment on major updates to Form 5106 (see 14100815), those revisions don't seem to be mentioned within the document.

Some Northeastern Ports were closed due to a snow storm that moved up the East coast and CBP will allow for additional time to file documents and duties that were due during the closure, the agency said. The Port of Boston and Logan airport are closed Jan. 27-28, the agency said (here). The agency also closed the Port of New York/Newark for Jan. 27 (here). CBP operations largely went on without interruption at mid-Atlantic ports despite concerns could cause some issues there too, said CBP on Jan. 26 in a press release (here). "Airport and seaport operations from Central New Jersey through Northern Virginia will be staffed to process international travelers and trade imports before, during and immediately after what is forecast to be a potentially crippling snowstorm,” said Augustine Moore, CBP Director of Field Operations, Baltimore Field Office.
