The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued a notice stating that at the request of the petitioner, International Imaging Materials, Inc. (IIMAK), it has further postponed the final antidumping (AD) duty determination on wax and wax/resin thermal transfer ribbons from South Korea until no later than March 29, 2004 (from March 22, 2004).
EchoStar has settled a 6-year-old suit with CBS-TV that sought to bar it from providing distant network signals. The settlement -- reached this month and disclosed in EchoStar’s 10-K report filed at the SEC -- is the 3rd the satellite service provider has reached with TV networks.

In its 2nd week available, Columbia TriStar’s Mona Lisa Smile was again the top-rented DVD in the U.S., Rentrak said its preliminary Home Video Essentials data for the week ended March 21 showed Thurs. Rentrak said the movie earned an additional $4.99 million on DVD in the week for a total of $10.93 million to date. On DVD and VHS, the title was also #1, earning $6.7 million for a total of $14.79 million. In its first full week available, Universal’s Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat was the #2- rented title on DVD and VHS, earning $5.47 million in the week for a total of $5.53 million. On DVD alone, the movie earned $3.95 million in the week and $3.99 million to date. The only other new title in the top 10 was Universal’s drama 21 Grams at #9 in DVD and VHS rentals. Rentrak said the title earned $2.93 million in the week and $2.97 million to date. On DVD alone, 21 Grams earned $2.33 million in the week and $2.37 million to date.
Take-Two Interactive’s Mafia for PS2 moved up one notch to become the top-rented videogame in the U.S., Rentrak’s preliminary Home Video Essentials data for the week ended March 21 showed Thurs. The title earned an additional $310,474 in its 8th week, for a total of $2.34 million. The Xbox version of the game moved up an unusual 46 spots to #10 in its 3rd week, earning $134,625 for a total of $182,669. But Electronic Arts again dominated publishers, this time with 4 SKUs in the top 10: Bond 007: Everything or Nothing for PS2 at #2 (up one, 5th week, $303,738 in the week and $1.50 million to date), Need for Speed Underground for PS2 at #4 again, 18th week ($230,741 and $6.31 million), NFL Street for PS2 at #5 again, 10th week ($214,467 and $2.04 million) and the Xbox version of the Bond game at #7 again in its 5th week ($147,424 and $751,027). The only other Xbox game in the top 10 was Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden at #3 (down 2, 3rd week, $295,602 and $835,102). Everything else in the chart was for PS2: Activision’s True Crime: Streets of L.A. at #6 again, 20th week ($183,230 and $5.54 million), Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Underground at #8 again, 21st week ($147,115 and $5.50 million) and THQ’s WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain at #9 (up 2, 21st week, $135,457 and $3.80 million).

Although they stopped short of making any major announcements regarding the successor to Xbox, Microsoft executives used the opening keynote at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Jose Wed. to unveil the new XNA software development platform. The company claimed XNA will hasten the advent of high-definition gaming and cross-platform online play between console and PC gamers.
L-3 Communications said it won an $18 million contract to upgrade the mission communications systems on executive aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force for the U.S. govt. It said the 10-month contract included 4 one-year options and covered preliminary engineering investigations of the on- board mission systems, program management, engineering support, and software, firmware and hardware changes.
