GameStop share prices were up Friday after the retailer raised its Q4 and fiscal year earnings per share estimates 2 cents due to better-than-expected January sales. In late afternoon trading, shares were up 2.8 percent at $47.04. The company expects to post diluted earnings per share of $1.11 or $1.12 Q4 and $1.77 or $1.78 for the year, it said. “Driven by impressive domestic and international sales, and in spite of temporary industry-wide videogame system shortages, preliminary comparable store sales for the fourth quarter exceeded our expectations and came in at a very strong 17.4 percent,” GameStop said. The company expects to report Q4 and fiscal year results and provide a fiscal 2008 earnings forecast in “mid-March,” it said.

New Games: In its 14th week available, the Xbox 360 version of Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was again the top-rented videogame in the U.S., according to Rentrak’s preliminary Home Video Essentials data for the week ended Feb. 10. Its first week, the 360 version of Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4 was No. 2. It was the only new release in a top 10 dominated by Microsoft’s console. The only two games in the top 10 not for 360 were Wii games Super Mario Galaxy from Nintendo at No. 9 again in its 13th week and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games from Sega at No. 10, down two in its 14th week… Activision plans to launch the next entry in its Vigilante 8 vehicular combat game series, Vigilante 8: Arcade, as an Xbox Live Arcade download this spring, it said Thursday. The game was licensed and developed by Isopod Labs… THQ will ship original action thriller game Deadly Creatures for Wii in 2008, but offered no specific date or pricing. The game was developed internally by THQ’s Rainbow Studios… Disney Interactive Studios will ship new extreme off-road racing game Pure, developed by its Black Rock Studios, this fall on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Pricing wasn’t provided.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has issued a press release announcing that the U.S. will join negotiations on investment and financial services set to begin in March among Singapore, Chile, New Zealand and Brunei, known as the "P-4" group of countries, which have negotiated their own free trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership, based largely on the U.S.' FTAs with Singapore and Chile. The U.S. will also determine whether it should participate in the full Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership.
