INDIANAPOLIS -- Despite its expansion into home management earlier this year, Universal Remote Control remains committed to the handheld remote control market, Jon Sienkiewicz, marketing director, told us at CEDIA. “One-way remotes are a significant part of our business,” Sienkiewicz said. “You still dance with the one who brought you.” He maintained that traditional remote controls will “never go away,” but competition from touchpanels and smartphone apps forces companies like Universal to “be more innovative."

The International Trade Administration has issued the preliminary results of an antidumping duty administrative review for certain frozen fish fillets from Vietnam (A-552-801). The ITA preliminarily finds AD margins of 0.00% for Vinh Hoan Group1 and AD margins of 0.56% for QVD Food Company, Ltd. and for 11 separate rate companies.1 These preliminary results are not in effect, may change in the final results, and once final, could result in new AD estimated cash deposit rates.
Judge Ellen Huvelle set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 21 on AT&T’s challenge of a Justice Department civil lawsuit against the company’s proposed buy of T-Mobile. She handed down an order asking the parties to be ready to “discuss the prospects for a settlement” at the hearing. The judge also asked DOJ, AT&T and T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom to file a joint plan by Sept. 16 on the scheduling and management of the case. The hearing is to be in Huvelle’s courtroom in Washington. Meanwhile, high-tech advocacy group Connect criticized DOJ’s decision to sue to block the deal. “Our new economy now runs, and can continue to expand, only if America’s wireless network capacity also expands,” the group said Wednesday. “Young and emerging tech companies, that are the driving engine for job creation and innovation, desperately need fast, reliable and ubiquitous wireless networks to thrive. AT&T and T-Mobile have reached an agreement that will facilitate these emerging companies.”
On September 1, 2011, the Export-Import Bank chairman and president concluded a business-development mission in Mexico, pledging closer ties to benefit both U.S. and Mexican companies and workers. Industries represented included construction, renewable energy production, steel fabrication, garment assembly, etc. He also met with officials from Pemex, the Bank's most significant partner in Mexico. The Bank has voted to grant preliminary approval for Pemex financing totaling $1 billion, which a $200 million facility to benefit U.S. small business exporters. Since 1998, the Bank has approved more than $8.3 billion in Pemex financing to support U.S. exports, Mexico’s economy, and workers in both countries.
