The International Trade Administration initiated countervailing duty investigations of certain frozen warmwater shrimp from China, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, it said in a Jan. 18 fact sheet. Imports of the merchandise totaled $4,149,341,000 in value in 2012, with Thai imports accounting for nearly 40 percent of the total value. The seven countries covered by these investigations collectively account for 85 percent of U.S. shrimp imports and more than three-quarters of the U.S. market, the Coalition of Frozen Shrimp Industries said in its request for the investigations.

The International Trade Administration issued the preliminary results of its antidumping administrative review of stainless steel bar from Brazil (A-351-825) for Villares Metals S.A. The ITA calculated a preliminary zero AD rate for the company. If the ITA continues to find a zero AD rate for Villares in the final results, it will instruct CBP to liquidate entries of Villares' subject merchandise during the period of review without regard to AD duties. These preliminary results are not in effect. The ITA may modify them in the final results of this review and change the estimated AD cash deposit rate for this company.
The International Trade Administration issued the preliminary results of its antidumping administrative review of certain cut-to-length carbon-quality steel plate from Korea (A-580-836) for seven manufacturer/exporters. The ITA preliminarily assigned three of the companies zero rates. The other four companies did not export to the U.S. during the period of review.1 These preliminary results are not in effect. The ITA may modify them in the final results of this review and change the estimated AD cash deposit rate for these companies.
The International Trade Administration issued the final results of the antidumping duty administrative review of chlorinated isocyanurates from China (A-570-898) for four companies, finding AD rates of 29.91 to 38.25 percent. The new rate is effective Jan. 22, and will be implemented by CBP soon.
Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee members are having difficulty wrapping up reports on spectrum sharing, as they continue to encounter difficulty getting the data they need from the Department of Defense and other parts of the federal government, they said. Meanwhile, NTIA Administrator Larry Strickling said the CSMAC will be reauthorized by the administration for another two years and current members will be asked to stick around for at least another year.
After reining in guidance for fiscal 2013 earnings projections on Monday -- largely on a 24 percent drop in TV sales for the holiday quarter -- hhgregg is holding a blowout TV sale this week with a “Playoffs Price Drops” promotion of up to 25 percent off “or more” on TVs over $499, it said in an email blast. Calling it a “Final Days” sale, hhgregg posted a Sharp 60-inch TV for under $1,000 and a Samsung 51-inch PN51E450 plasma TV at $549. The Sharp LC60LE600U is now tagged at $999, slashed 41 percent, or $700, when purchased in-store only, the ad said. The Samsung plasma was clipped by $100, or 15 percent.
Full integration into global production chains and a willingness to open markets to wider imports are keys to a country's competitiveness and exports, said preliminary international trade data released Jan. 16 by the OECD and the World Trade Organization. The joint report on "Trade in Value-Added Initiative" aims to use the new data base to analyze the value added by a country in the production of any good or service that is then exported.
