Several major broadcasters sued online TV service Aereokiller in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, seeking a preliminary injunction barring the company from rebroadcasting Washington-area TV stations. The lawsuit is the latest in an ongoing battle between broadcasters and Aereokiller and competing service Aereo, which both use networks of tiny individual antennas to rebroadcast TV stations’ content.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a proposed rule on hazardous materials procedural regulations for the opening of packages and emergency orders and recalls, as well as notification and inspection requirements, as required by 2012’s Hazardous Materials Transportation Safety Improvement Act. The proposed rule adds an amendment recognizing “the special characteristics and handling requirements of perishable hazardous material.” It says that agents will stop or open perishable hazardous material packages only after they have utilized “appropriate alternatives.”

Consumer responses to the Copyright Alert System have been “productive and positive,” said Jill Lesser, executive director of the Center for Copyright Information, which manages the antipiracy education program, in a blog post over the weekend (http://bit.ly/14xYJkS). The post said preliminary data show that “there are many more first stage alerts than second stage alerts and ... very few consumers are reaching the third, or mitigation, stage,” and the “few consumers that have elected to challenge their Alerts have been able to file those challenges with the American Arbitration Association.” CCI will provide further updates “once we have sufficient time to thoroughly evaluate the program,” Lesser wrote.

The Commerce Department issued the preliminary results of its antidumping duty administrative review on narrow woven ribbons with woven selvedge from China (A-570-844). Both respondents did not respond to Commerce's questionnaires, and so were assigned adverse facts available (AFA) AD rates as noncooperating companies, Commerce said. These preliminary results are not in effect. Commerce may modify them in the final results of this review and change the estimated AD cash deposit rates for these companies.
