Forced Labor

CBP is the primary U.S. agency tasked with combating forced labor in international trade. It is the only agency with legal authority to take enforcement action and prevent entry into domestic commerce of goods produced with forced labor. CBP combats forced labor by issuing Withhold Release Orders (WROs) and Findings, and enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA), and Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). Goods subject to WROs and Findings, UFLPA, and CAATSA status cannot be entered at any ports of the U.S.

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

CBP Moves Customs Broker License Examination to May 1

The customs broker license examination that was scheduled for April 24, 2024, is being moved to May 1, 2024, CBP said in a notice released Dec. 12. The previous date for the exam conflicted with the Jewish religious holiday of Passover, the agency said.

EAPA Investigation Finds Duty Evasion by Xanthan Gum Imports

Colony Gums and Marine Hydrocolloids evaded an antidumping duty order on xanthan gum from China, CBP said in the final determination of an Enforce and Protect Act investigation. The agency said it found substantial evidence that the importers had transshipped Chinese-origin xanthan gum through India, necessitating the imposition of interim measures.

Sheffield Hallam Paper Finds Uyghur Forced Labor Moving Into EU 'Without Restriction'

A "substantial volume" of apparel made with Uyghur forced labor is entering the EU without restriction, a new Sheffield Hallam University report said. The report, released Dec. 6, studied four Chinese suppliers and focused on how their products were getting into the EU. In all, 39 brands are "at high risk" for sourcing goods made with Uyghur forced labor, including Hugo Boss, Inditex and Skechers.
