Partner government agency items will be part of the ACE production deployment on Jan. 16, CBP said in a CSMS message Jan. 11. The deployment will include EPA's hydrofluorocarbons message set, as well as a new business rule for northern red snapper under the Seafood Import Monitoring Program announced in November (see 2311290046).

CBP created Harmonized System Update (HSU) 2400 Jan. 5, containing 397 ABI records and 77 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records, as well as HSU 2401 on Jan. 8, containing 383 ABI records and 73 Harmonized Tariff Records. HSU 2400 and 2401 include the missing 2024 HTS updates that were part of the end of year 484(f) changes, CBP said in a CSMS message on Jan. 8.
An importer's entries are subject to Section 232 tariffs because the vessel arrival date transmitted in ACE by the ship's captain came after the tariffs took effect on June 1, 2018, despite the importer's claim -- backed by different documentation -- that the goods actually arrived in port and had a date of entry prior to that date, CBP said in a recent ruling.

CBP found no substantial evidence that Muller Import Inc. and U.S. Castings Inc. evaded the antidumping and countervailing duty orders on cast iron soil pipe and cast iron soil pipe fittings from China via transshipment through India, the agency announced Dec. 22.
Ian Saunders began his job as the new secretary general of the World Customs Organization, the organization said Jan. 3. Nominated by CBP, Saunders was elected to the position in June (see 2306260031). He was previously a deputy assistant secretary at the Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration.
CBP released its "hold" on EU steel and aluminum quotas Jan. 2, with quota limits remaining unchanged from the levels set for 2023, CBP said in a CSMS message Jan. 3. That same day CBP posted updated quota bulletins for steel and for aluminum. The "STX" steel extended exclusions for 2024 announced by the Commerce Department are available in ACE starting Jan. 4, CBP said.
