During the August 7, 2008 meeting of the Departmental Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Related Homeland Security Functions (COAC), CBP officials sought COAC's input on the possibility of closing the Los Angeles Drawback Center.
Drawback
A duty drawback is a refund by CBP of the duties, taxes, or fees paid on imported goods, which were imposed upon importation as prescribed in 19 U.S.C. 1313(d). More broadly, a drawback also includes the refund or remission of other excise taxes pursuant to other provisions of law.
CBP's Port of Los Angeles issued Public Bulletin LA08-019 notifying drawback filers that the San Francisco Drawback Center will be assisting the Los Angeles Drawback Center with the processing of drawback claim liquidations. Effective on August 1, 2008, drawback claims submitted to the Los Angeles Drawback Center may be forwarded by CBP to the San Francisco Drawback Center for processing.
