Italy’s communications regulator said it opened a preliminary probe into integrated fixed-mobile telecom services. In a statement, the agency said that it will evaluate competition in these markets and whether fixed line telecom is a substitute for mobile. Telecom Italia and Vodafone have both recently launched services combining the 2 services, but they're not affected by the inquiry. The proceeding will last 120 days and help determine any need for regulatory measures, the agency said.

Two N.Y. teenagers were charged with attempted extortion against MySpace.com after they allegedly hacked into MySpace and stole personal information from site users. They then threatened to steal more information unless MySpace sent them $150,000, said a spokeswoman for the L.A. County district attorney’s office.
