Cable network owners such as Disney, Scripps and Discovery have somewhat different views on prospects for putting their shows on new platforms such as Apple’s iPad, they told investors on earnings teleconferences this week. Disney seems to be the most aggressive about the iPad, and already is developing applications for some of its cable and broadcast properties.

Panasonic Tuesday formally plunged into the 3D TV market, unveiling plans for 50- and 54-inch plasma sets that will be available for sale April 23 in Japan. Panasonic officials weren’t available at our deadline for comment on U.S. plans, but executives have confirmed the company will field 3D-capable plasma TVs here. The plasma 3D TVs are expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in the spring.
Electronic Arts’ digital business recently hit the $500 million a year revenue “threshold,” growing 30 percent, CEO John Riccitiello said on an earnings call. He predicted the publisher will do $750 million in digital business in fiscal 2011 starting in April. EA has “programs in place that should take this to well beyond $1 billion” a year “in the coming two fiscal years,” he said.
Sales for Pioneer’s fiscal 2010 Q3 ended Dec. 31 decreased but operating income rose and net loss improved compared with a year ago, the company said Tuesday. It also forecast lower full-year sales, but said its losses would narrow compared with fiscal 2009.
