Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Releases May 23 Customs Bulletin

U.S. Customs and Border Protection released its May 23 Customs Bulletin. While the Bulletin does not contain any ruling articles, it does list recent information collection notices and recent Court of International Trade decisions.

CBP Posts Updated CEE FAQs

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) posted an updated listed of frequently asked questions on the Centers of Excellence and Expertise. CBP officials said during the May 22, 2012 COAC meeting another update is expected shortly. The questions and answers are:

CBP Reports ITACS Problems

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said May 23, 2012 some users are finding problems when dealing with the Import Trade Auxiliary Communication System (ITACS). When documents are successfully submitted using ITACS, the confirmation message “The documents have been successfully submitted” is displayed. FDA is receiving reports of users receiving the message “The documents have been scheduled for submission.” When this message is received, the document upload fails and FDA does not receive them. FDA is actively troubleshooting this issue, said CBP. If “The documents have been scheduled for submission” message is received, you should resubmit your documents via ITACS or use alternate means of submitting documents. CBP Issues CF 1400, CF 1401 Reports for May 21

U.S. Customs and Border Protection posted a May 21 version of its CF 1400 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Entrances) electronic query report of the Vessel Management System (VMS), in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by entrances. CBP also posted a version of its CF 1401 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Clearances) electronic query report of the VMS, in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by clearances.
