Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Moving Toward Taiwan Mutual Recognition, Gives More Detail on Requirements in FAQs Update

CBP updated its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the process toward achieving mutual recognition arrangements (MRA) and bilateral understandings between two customs administrations. Among new material included since the previous version, CBP notes "an MRA is expected to be signed with Taiwan in the Fall of 2012." The update also includes additional detail on the process for mutual recognition of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program and foreign industry partner programs

CBP Says Brokers Won't Receive Penalties for Cargo Diverted due to Hurricane

CBP updated its cargo diversion instructions to include "brokers as part of the group who will not receive penalties due to diverted cargo" related to Hurricane Sandy. said CBP in a CSMS message. Filers that will be temporarily conducting business in Norfolk, Baltimore, or Philadelphia, and that are not currently permitted in that port, may obtain a temporary local permit by contacting the Broker Management Officer at the port. The required fee will be waived, said CBP.

CBP's Weekly TRQ/TPL Commodity Graph Report as of Nov. 5

CBP issued its weekly tariff rate quota and tariff preference level commodity report as of Nov. 5. This report includes TRQs on various products such as beef, sugar, dairy products, peanuts, cotton, cocoa products, and tobacco; and certain BFTA, DR-CAFTA, Israel FTA, JFTA, MFTA, OFTA, SFTA, UAFTA (AFTA) and UCFTA (Chile FTA) non-textile TRQs etc. Each report also includes the AGOA, ATPDEA, BFTA, DR-CAFTA, CBTPA, Haitian HOPE, MFTA, NAFTA, OFTA, SFTA, and UCFTA TPLs and TRQs for qualifying textile articles and/or other articles; the TRQs on worsted wool fabrics, etc.

CBP Issues CF 1400, CF 1401 Reports for Nov. 5

CBP posted a Nov. 5 version of its CF 1400 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Entrances) electronic query report of the Vessel Management System (VMS), in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by entrances. CBP also posted a version of its CF 1401 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Clearances) electronic query report of the VMS, in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by clearances.
