Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

NCBFAA Election Process Begins

The election of half of the board members for the National Custom Brokers & Forwarders Association of America begins later this month. Nominations and nominating petitions are due Feb. 22. If there's a contested election, proxies will be sent to members in the areas represented by March 8. The results will be announced April 8 at the annual meeting in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

CBP, EU Complete Implementation of C-TPAT and AEO Mutual Recognition

CBP and the European Union said a mutual recognition decision between CBP’s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program and the EU’s Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program was fully implemented, effective Jan. 31. The agreement makes it easier for C-TPAT members to export to EU member states, and includes lower risk score and fewer exams. CBP said.

CBP to Reschedule Trade Support Network Event

CBP said it plans to find another date for Trade Support Network Plenary Session that was tentatively scheduled for Feb. 26-28. The agency was unable to "secure a venue on those dates" and CBP is "working on alternative dates for this spring," said CBP spokeswoman by email.

CBP Says Removal of AD/CV Stats Due to Misinterpretations of e-Allegations

CBP removed its antidumping and countervailing duty statistics for FY 2012 due to possible misinterpretations of data released about the agency' s e-Allegation program, said CBP officials in an interview. The e-Allegation statistics, which showed 123 of 149 allegations still requiring action by CBP, could mistakenly be considered to be "case management system" that showed progress of each individual allegation, the official said. The e-Allegation system, which allows for anonymous submissions, is more like a police tip line and often adds pieces of information for ongoing AD/CV cases, the official said. CBP recently pulled down its AD/CV enforcement statistics for FY 2012 that were recently posted on the agency's website. The e-Allegations statistics won't go back up on the website, though the other enforcement statistics will, said the official.

The messages are available by searching for the listed CBP message number at addcvd.cbp.gov. (CBP occasionally adds backdated messages without otherwise indicating which message was added. ITT will include a message date in parentheses in such cases.)

CBP Boston Says Feb. 8 a Snow Day for Area Ports

CBP Boston said its office will be closed Feb. 8 due to an approaching winter storm, it said in a public information notice. As a result, a snow day is granted in the port of Boston and Logan airport, "extending one additional day without penalty for filing of entries and payment of duties and fees" that were due Feb. 8, said CBP Boston. Regular operations are scheduled to resume Feb. 11.
