Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

Only Oakland Fumigation Facility to Close, Says CBP

The only fumigation facility in the Port of Oakland area will close after June 30, said CBP in an information notice. As of July 1, "all shipments arriving at the Port of Oakland requiring precautionary treatment as a condition of entry will require exportation or destruction for lack of an authorized treatment," said the notice. CBP refers agriculture shipments to such Department of Agriculture-approved facilities to deal with pest and disease risks.

CBP Reaches Agreement with University of Maryland for Leadership Education

Upper-level CBP officials will be able to take management courses at The University of Maryland Smith School of Business as part of a $7.2 million, five-year agreement, said the business school in a press release. The deal allows for up to an enrollment of 120 agency managers per year, it said. “When the collection of import duties, enforcing U.S. trade laws, and regulating and facilitating international trade are added to the mix, the scope of responsibilities of Customs and Border Protection professionals is simply incredible,” said Joe Thomas, academic director for the CBP program. “These expansive missions in the face of constrained resources require adaptable and resilient leaders capable of creating and maintaining a true learning organization.” The program will include courses on "strategic thinking, leadership communication, and business management to prepare them for increased levels of responsibility in CBP," it said.

CBP Issues CF 1400, CF 1401 Reports for May 30

CBP posted a May 30 version of its CF 1400 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Entrances) electronic query report of the Vessel Management System (VMS), in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by entrances. CBP also posted a version of its CF 1401 (Record of Vessel in Foreign Trade Clearances) electronic query report of the VMS, in accordance with 19 CFR 4.95, organized by clearances.

CBP Weekly TRQ/TPL Commodity Graph Report and Threshold to Fill List as of June 2

CBP issued its weekly tariff rate quota and tariff preference level commodity report as of June 2. This report (here) includes TRQs on various products such as beef, sugar, dairy products, peanuts, cotton, cocoa products, and tobacco; and certain BFTA, DR-CAFTA, Israel FTA, JFTA, MFTA, OFTA, SFTA, UAFTA (AFTA) and UCFTA (Chile FTA) non-textile TRQs, etc. Each report also includes the AGOA, ATPDEA, BFTA, DR-CAFTA, CBTPA, Haitian HOPE, MFTA, NAFTA, OFTA, SFTA, and UCFTA TPLs and TRQs for qualifying textile articles and/or other articles; the TRQs on worsted wool fabrics, etc.

CBP Revises Numerous Definitions, Changes Origin Certificate Authority in AGOA Regulations

CBP's adoption of final interim regulations to reflect Treasury Department Decisions and legislation affecting eligibility for African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) preferential treatment, will make a number of changes to the agency's regulations.
