CBP will temporarily allow non-automated consolidated freight stations, warehouses and terminals to release cargo based on screen printouts presented to them by filers while the agency conducts its Simplified Entry pilot, it said on July 2. CBP says the interim procedures will allow non-automated facilities that don’t get electronic releases to handle entries filed under the pilot. Simplified Entry does away with the filing of paper Form 3461, so CBP won’t be creating courtesy copies or otherwise stamping forms, it said.

With demand high for soccer apparel during the 2014 World Cup, CBP says its San Juan field office recently seized a consignment of counterfeit soccer uniforms. The shipment arrived from Hong Kong to the San Juan air cargo facility, containing boxes of soccer shirts and shorts that were destined to an address in San Juan. CBP said that an inspection revealed that the boxes contained fake uniforms of the Brazilian, Italian and Argentinian national teams that violated the intellectual property rights of Nike, Puma, and Adidas.
CBP Los Angeles said the Price Transfer Dominguez Centralized Examination Station (CES) is proposing changes to its fee schedule. In a public bulletin LA14-014 dated July 1, CBP LA says the CES plans to increase some fees, decrease other fees, and eliminate some fees altogether. Comments on the fee changes are due July 31. CBP says the port director will review comments and then decide whether to accept the revised fee schedule.
Automated Broker Interface (ABI) final daily statements for Automated Clearinghouse (ACH) credit payments made on July 1 will be delayed for a day as a result of a processing problem in the Automated Commercial System (ACS), said CBP in a CSMS message July 2. The agency says the payments have not yet been processed due to a problem with its ACH credit file from the bank in ACS. “We are aware of the issue and are working on a resolution,” said CBP.

CBP issued its weekly tariff rate quota and tariff preference level commodity report as of June 30. This report (here) includes TRQs on various products such as beef, sugar, dairy products, peanuts, cotton, cocoa products, and tobacco; and certain BFTA, DR-CAFTA, Israel FTA, JFTA, MFTA, OFTA, SFTA, UAFTA (AFTA) and UCFTA (Chile FTA) non-textile TRQs, etc. Each report also includes the AGOA, ATPDEA, BFTA, DR-CAFTA, CBTPA, Haitian HOPE, MFTA, NAFTA, OFTA, SFTA, and UCFTA TPLs and TRQs for qualifying textile articles and/or other articles; the TRQs on worsted wool fabrics, etc.
Seattle Container Exam Station (CES) MacMillan Piper will be shutting down operations over the next two months, according to a CBP notice issued June 30. On July 5, CES MacMillan Piper will no longer be available as an option for agriculture inspections. The last day for all other CBP exam-designated cargo for the CES will be Aug. 15. The facility will close for good on Aug. 31, said CBP.
