Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Seizes $1 Million Worth of Handbags

CBP seized over 2,300 fake Gucci and Louis Vuitton handbags at the Miami Seaport on Aug. 19, the agency said (here). The bags would be worth over $1 million if real, said CBP. Agency officers took a closer look at the shipment of handbags from China after noticing that 20 cartons of goods weren't declared, CBP said.

CBP Stops $8 Million Worth of Cocaine in Tire Shipment

CBP seized more than 424 pounds of cocaine hidden in a tire shipment from South America at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport, the agency said in a news release (here). “Without any doubt, this is one of the most significant narcotics interception in recent years at our nation’s largest seaport,” said Carlos Martel, CBP Port Director of the L.A./Long Beach Seaport. CBP estimated the street value of the cocaine at $8.08 million. The agency found the cocaine on Aug. 22 using non-intrusive inspection technology on the containers, CBP said.

Second Phase of PGA Pilots to Begin Sept. 2, Says CBP

CBP plans to begin the second phase of Partner Government Agency pilot programs to test filing in the Automated Commercial Environment on Sept. 2, CBP said in a CSMS message (here). The second phase will include an expansion of the ports involved, the agency said. During the first phase last week, Food and Drug Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration entry data transactions were "successfully transmitted, accepted and processed" in ACE, said CBP.
