CBP outlined its recent enforcement work related to antidumping and countervailing duties in an AD/CVD Update for September (here). In September, two accused evaders of AD/CV duties on aluminum extrusions agreed to pay more than $400,000 as part of a settlement with the Justice Department. Two others were sentenced in September following a guilty plea related to imports of undervalued Chinese magnesium powder, said CBP. The DoJ also recently filed two civil suits over evaded AD duties, said CBP. "The judicial enforcement of antidumping duties and issuance of civil penalties are just part of CBP’s efforts to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers," it said. Also, CBP staff from several offices across the country traveled to Iowa to visit an Ajinomoto North America monosodium glutamate manufacturing facility, the agency said. "By providing market and commodity expertise, the trade community is a key partner in CBP’s AD/CVD enforcement efforts," said CBP.
