Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

Annual User Fee for Broker District and National Permits Due Jan. 25

The 2019 annual user fee of $144.74 for each customs broker district permit and national permit held by an individual, partnership, association or corporation is due by Jan. 25, CBP said in a notice. If a broker fails to pay the annual user fee by the published due date, the appropriate port director will notify the broker in writing of the failure to pay and will revoke the permit to operate. The 2019 fee represents an increase from last year's user fee of $141.70, as previously announced (see 1807310028).

CBP Announces Advance Manifest Filing Requirement for Section 321 Truck Shipments

CBP will require advance electronic manifest filing for all commercial trucks with Section 321 shipments starting Jan. 1, the agency said in a Nov. 5 CSMS message. The growth in e-commerce "combined with the increase in the De Minimis value, has resulted in a significant growth in shipments being manifested and released under Section 321," CBP said. "The lack of an electronic manifest eliminates CBP’s ability to conduct a risk assessment or perform advance targeting within the Automated Targeting System (ATS), results in slower processing times and longer wait times."
