Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

Importers Can Miss Refunds on Sections 232, 301 Duties if Entries Liquidate Before Exclusions Granted, CBP Says

Importers have some options to preserve refunds on entries subject to Section 232 or Section 301 tariffs while awaiting a decision on exclusion requests, a CBP official said during a May 9 conference call. An importer can request an extension to the liquidation, the official said. Importers also can file a protest after liquidation and "provide information that the exclusion has been applied for but not granted," the official said. If a protest period expires after liquidation and an exclusion is granted, "CBP does not have any legal mechanisms to provide refunds of duties after the protest period closes," he said. CBP recommends "that importers pay close attention to the liquidation dates" for entries that are subject to the tariffs but could receive an exclusion, the official said.

Some ACE Deployments Moved Up in Updated Schedule

Two ACE deployments planned for July will now go forward in June, CBP said in an updated ACE schedule. Those deployments are "Mass Processing, Phase 1," which only impacts CBP users, and "Consolidated Express Filings," CBP said in a CSMS message. Also new to the schedule are the addition of the document filed (DocFile) location capability in ACE and an updated deployment date for collections, according to the change log.
