The Government Accountability Office found that e-cigarette devices brought in $71.5 million in tariff revenues from 2016 to 2018, while parts for the vaping industry were responsible for $41.6 million in tariffs. The liquid for e-cigarettes is imported at lower volumes, and accounted for $7.4 million in tariffs during the two-year period.
CBP is moving the fall 2019 customs broker license examination to Oct. 17, it said in a notice. Originally scheduled for Oct. 23, the exam is being moved up “due to an unforeseen impediment to optimal conditions for administering the test,” CBP said.

Nonprofit groups, led by the International Labor Rights Forum, have filed a formal complaint with CBP asking that it block imports of palm oil from Malaysian plantations run by FGV, because the product is harvested with forced labor. The complaint, filed Aug. 15, says that migrant laborers are recruited in Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal and the Philippines, and after arriving, are charged large fees for the jobs that turn them into indentured servants for months. The groups, which include SumofUs and Rainforest Action Network, also say that the companies seize the workers' passports so they cannot leave.
CBP is setting permanent import restrictions on archaeological material from Algeria, it said in a final rule. The U.S. and Algeria on Aug. 15 entered into an agreement allowing import restrictions on archeological materials more than 25 years old, CBP said. The final rule sets out a Designated List of Archaeological Material of Algeria to which the restrictions apply. The final rule takes effect Aug. 15.
