Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Extends Test Period for South Korea Steel Product Certificates

CBP will extend the “soft reject testing period” for steel goods from South Korea requiring a Korea Iron and Steel Association Certificate of Export (see 1909170045), CBP said in a CSMS message. “An additional CSMS message will be published at least 15 days prior to the completion of this test and initiation of the hard reject of entries lacking the export certificate number,” CBP said.

CBP Seeks Comment on Info Collection for NAFTA

CBP is seeking comments by Feb. 11 on an existing information collection request for NAFTA regulations and certificates of origin, it said in a notice. CBP proposes to extend the expiration date of this information collection with no change to the burden hours or to the information collected.

CBP Releases Dec. 4 Customs Bulletin

CBP released its Dec. 4 Customs Bulletin (Vol. 53, No. 44). While it does not contain any customs rulings, it contains CBP general notices and Court of International Trade decisions. CBP also issued a notice on its receipt of a “Lever-Rule” protection application from BIC Corporation for certain pocket lighters with its trademark intended for sale outside the U.S. The company would like CBP to stop importation of the products intended for sale in countries outside the U.S., known as gray market products. CBP will grant such protection, which is known as Lever-Rule protection, if it finds the parts are physically and materially different from the products intended for sale in the U.S., it said.
