Clear Terms

Search Primer

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons.

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match (e.g. "China import").

Acronyms: Use all capital letters to ensure the search is not looking for that letter sequence instead.

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., +CBP).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Always use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted (multi-word) term, you want to only include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Reports 73 Percent Increase in Duties Collected in FY19 Over Prior Year

CBP collected $71.9 billion in customs duties during fiscal year 2019, a 73 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, the agency said in a news release about its latest annual report on the agency's travel and trade statistics. “This is a staggering increase in duty collections, linked directly to the Administration’s trade remedy measures under Sections 201 and 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.” CBP said in the report. “Whereas remedies were only in place for part of fiscal year 2018, they were in place for the entire fiscal year in 2019.”

CBP Requests Scope Determinations in Two EAPA Investigations

CBP asked the Commerce Department to make scope determinations in proceedings under the Enforce and Protect Act that involve plywood and diamond sawblade imports. In the diamond sawblades investigation (see 1811010023), CBP seeks a scope ruling for three combinations of inputs and sourcing. In the plywood investigation (see 1811280010), CBP seeks Commerce's opinion “as to whether the 2-ply cores of Chinese origin, which are further processed in Vietnam to include the face and back veneers of non-coniferous wood, are within the scope of the orders.” The scope referrals are both dated last year, but were recently posted by CBP.
