Government Affairs Canada released information June 16 about tariff preference levels for imports and exports of textiles and clothing under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The agency issued one notice to importers and another to exporters covering the TPL for goods including “1) wool and cotton or man-made fibre apparel; 2) cotton or man-made fibre fabrics and made-up goods; and 3) cotton or man-made fibre spun yarn.” The agency also issued three other notices to exporters of TPL goods, including: wool and cotton or man-made fiber apparel; cotton or man-made fiber fabric and made-up goods; and spun yarn and metalized yarn.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency “is now in a position to gradually resume some inspection services that were temporarily suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the agency said in a recent news release. “The CFIA will continue to monitor developments regarding COVID-19 and make adjustments to its service delivery plans as needed.” The CFIA didn't specify what inspections will restart, but said it “will adopt a risk-based approach to prioritize the resumption of its activities,” and that the resumed services will vary by region depending on local public health guidance.

Global Affairs Canada posted a list of returned tariff rate quota amounts that are now available for reallocation under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Brazil added 141 items to its list of foreign capital goods and information technology and telecommunications goods subject to duty-free treatment under the country’s Ex-Tarifario regime, said a June 9 Hong Kong Trade Development Council report. Among the additions, 129 items are capital goods and 12 are IT and telecom goods, the report said. The goods will benefit from duty-free treatment though Dec. 31, 2021. Brazil also renewed tariff-rate quotas on imports for five products: aluminum phosphide insecticides, polyester yarn, nickel cathodes, black printing ink and other printing ink.
