CBP named Dina Amato the new director of the agency’s Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program, a CBP spokesperson confirmed. Amato started in the new role April 8. She was most recently assistant director for trade of CBP’s Miami/Tampa field office, “where she had oversight over trade and agriculture operations for the entire state of Florida,” the spokesperson said.
Diana Shaw, former acting inspector general for the State Department, has joined Wiley as a partner in the white collar defense and government investigations practice, the firm announced. Shaw worked at State for four years and, before that, at DHS's Office of Inspector General.
David Laufman, former chief of DOJ’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, is retiring, he announced on LinkedIn last week. Laufman was most recently a partner with Wiggin and Dana (see 1905140075) after leaving DOJ in 2018, where he oversaw the agency’s export control and sanctions investigations and prosecutions.
Jason Prince, former chief counsel for the Office of Foreign Assets Control, has joined Akin Gump's economic sanctions practice, the law firm announced April 3. Prince was most recently a sanctions and export controls lawyer with Crowell & Moring after leaving OFAC in 2022.
Alex Lopes, director of the Bureau of Industry and Security's Office of Nonproliferation and Treaty Compliance, will be leaving BIS soon, said Thea Kendler, the agency’s top export administration official. Kendler, speaking during the BIS annual Update Conference, didn’t say when Lopes will officially leave, but she said he “has a well deserved retirement coming after a tremendous public service career.” Lopes has worked at Commerce for more than 21 years and as director since at least 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile.
CBP named Marty Raybon its new director of field operations for CBP's Detroit Field Office, the agency announced on March 25. Raybon will now be responsible for overseeing the Ambassador Bridge, the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge, and the forthcoming Gordie Howe International Bridge, the agency said. Prior to this assignment, Raybon served as the executive director for CBP’s National Targeting Center.
Michael Rithmire, former director of the Bureau of Industry and Security's Sensors and Aviation Division, joined semiconductor company Lam Research as its global trade director, he announced on LinkedIn last week. Rithmire most recently worked as a part-time consultant with Akin Gump after leaving BIS in September.
The Federal Maritime Commission has hired Mohammad “Ali” Usman as its new chief information officer. Usman will direct information technology and serve as the "primary IT technical advisor to the Managing Director" as of March 11, the FMC said. Usman joins FMC from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, where he was chief technology officer.
Adam Deutsch, former director for international economics at the National Security Council, recently joined Meta as its sanctions strategy and emerging risks lead, he announced on LinkedIn last week. Deutsch left the National Security Council in 2022 and was most recently a sanctions advisory manager at PayPal.
Neena Shenai, former senior legal director and chief counsel for global trade at medical technology giant Medtronic, has joined WilmerHale as a partner in the international trade, investment and market access practice group, the firm announced. Shenai's practice will center on economic sanctions, export controls and issues pertaining to global market navigation, the firm said. Before joining Medtronic, Shenai also worked as trade counsel to the House Ways and Means Committee during 2011-15.
