Senator Blasts China’s New Export Restrictions on Japan
Sen. Pete Ricketts, R-Neb., a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, criticized China on Jan. 12 for banning dual-use exports to Japanese military users because it disliked Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments on Taiwan.

“Communist China’s export ban targeting Japan is economic coercion -- plain and simple,” Ricketts wrote on X. “Punishing a key U.S. ally for speaking honestly about peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is unacceptable.”
China announced the export restrictions after Takaichi said in November that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan might trigger a Japanese military response (see 2601070002).
