US Requests Consultations With China Over Proposed Beef Safeguard
The U.S. requested consultations at the World Trade Organization with China last week concerning China's safeguard investigation on imported beef, which was opened in December 2024 and has been twice extended. Most recently, China's Ministry of Commerce extended the investigation through Jan. 26 (see 2511250038).

The U.S. said the goal of the consultations would be to "exchange views and seek clarification regarding the measure." It noted that China has yet to propose any particular safeguard remedy, despite making a "serious injury determination." The proposed consultations would cover both the injury finding and "any potential safeguard remedy" China is considering.
