DOE to Review Report on Research With Restricted Chinese Firms
The Energy Department plans to examine a recent congressional report that says many DOE-funded research projects have been conducted with Chinese entities the U.S. government has placed on restricted lists for their ties to China’s military or role in human rights abuses, a department spokesperson said Dec. 22.

DOE “will review the House report to better assess, understand and validate its assertions,” the spokesperson said in an email. The department “takes seriously its responsibility to steward federal funds and safeguard critical research capabilities.”
The report, which the House Select Committee on China and the House and Senate Intelligence committees released Dec. 17, urges DOE to stop funding research collaboration with listed entities (see 2512170052).
