Court Plans Hearing Next Month on Texas Age-Verification Law
The U.S. District Court for Western Texas set a hearing for 10 a.m. CT on Dec. 16 on a preliminary injunction against the state’s app store age-verification law. SB-2420, set to go into effect Jan. 1, requires app stores to verify the age of users, so that kids younger than 18 cannot download certain apps or make in-app purchases without parental consent.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) sued the state over the law in October, arguing it was unconstitutional and should be blocked (case 1:25-cv-01660) (see 2510160034). Though Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) defended the law, the trade association doubled down on its argument that SB-2420 implicates free speech (see 2511200039).
