CBP Seeks Members for COAC Amid Restructuring

CBP is seeking members for the Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee, after the agency indicated earlier this year that the committee would undertake a new direction aligned with the White House's desire to bolster trade enforcement (see 2509170046). The agency is accepting applications through Dec. 19, according to a Federal Register notice.

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

CBP's website indicates that COAC's quarterly meetings are still ongoing, with the next one scheduled for Dec. 10, though the location has not been announced.

In the notice, CBP said the 20 members would be representatives of the trade or transportation committee or others "directly affected" by CBP commercial operations. They would represent major regions of the country. The members would be appointed, without regard to political affiliation, by the secretaries of the Treasury and DHS, as recommended by the CBP commissioner.

The application includes the submission of a statement of interest and reasons for application, as well as a complete professional resume, home and work contact information, and an agreement to submit to mandatory background and tax checks.

CBP said members currently serving on the COAC may reapply for membership if they are not in their second consecutive term and have met attendance requirements.
