Senator Seeks Terror Group Label for Sudan’s RSF
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch, R-Idaho, on Oct. 28 called for designating Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) a Foreign Terrorist Organization, following the mass killing of civilians during the militia’s takeover of the city of El Fasher.

The RSF, which has repeatedly been accused of crimes against defenseless civilians during its two-and-a-half-year war with the Sudanese Armed Forces, “has waged terror and committed unspeakable atrocities, genocide among them, against the Sudanese people,” Risch wrote on X. “The RSF must be called what it is: a foreign terrorist organization and officially designated as one. America is not safer, secure or more prosperous with the RSF slaughtering thousands.”
In January, the U.S. sanctioned the RSF’s commander, along with seven United Arab Emirates-based companies tied to the group (see 2501070024). Since then, lawmakers have urged the Trump administration to impose additional sanctions on RSF supporters and others perpetuating Sudan's civil war (see 2508050011).
