FMC Pauses Operations Amid Government Shutdown
The Federal Maritime Commission announced Oct. 1 that it has suspended operations as part of the U.S. government shutdown and has furloughed its entire workforce except its three commissioners.

The FMC “will resume normal operations when appropriations legislation is enacted, and the federal government reopens,” the announcement says.
During the shutdown, the agency won't accept or act on complaints or requests for dispute resolution. Filing deadlines in adjudicatory and investigatory proceedings pending before the commission or administrative law judges are suspended.
The FMC’s website and several online databases will remain available during the shutdown but will not be updated. The agency won't accept a host of filings or applications, such as ocean transportation intermediary automated applications or license updates, and foreign unlicensed non-vessel-operating common carrier registrations or renewals.
