Bipartisan Bill Would Suspend 15% Tariff on Titanium Sponge
Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Mich., introduced a bill to suspend the 15% tariff on titanium sponge imports from trusted trade partners.

"Lowering this tariff would help ensure American titanium manufacturers can stay competitive against producers in Russia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and grow our domestic manufacturing capacity," his June 28 news release said.
The bipartisan bill also was sponsored by fellow House Ways and Means members Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio; Mike Kelly, R-Pa.; and Carol Miller, R-W.Va.; and by Reps. Haley Stevens, D-Mich.; Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.; and Dina Titus, D-Nev.
“The United States should not be buying titanium from our adversaries that we can produce ourselves. Now more than ever, we should be bolstering American manufacturers and critical mineral producers to protect U.S. national security," Miller said, adding that the Securing America’s Titanium Manufacturing Act of 2024 "will ensure that the United States is using our resources to improve our titanium supply, strengthen our national security, and grow our economy.”
The United Steelworkers supported the bill, and its statement said the union likes that the bill gives the president the authority to "re-establish those tariffs when U.S. production restarts."
