Non-EU Countries Align With EU Sanctions Actions on Human Rights Abusers, Iran

European countries not in the EU aligned with two recent EU sanctions moves concerning Iran and human rights abuses, the Council of the EU announced.

On April 12, the council added three entities to its human rights abusers sanctions list (see 2404120024). The entities are the Al-Quds Brigades, which is the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Nukhba Force, a Hamas special forces unit; and the Qassam Brigades. The countries of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway also imposed the decision, the council noted.

Earlier this month, the council also updated the listings of 17 individuals and removed one entity from its Iran sanctions regime. The countries of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway aligned with the decision, the council said.
