Peterson Institute Economist Named State Department Chief Economist
Chad Bown, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics who tracked the ways the U.S.-China phase one trade agreement fell short, has joined the State Department as chief economist.

As head of the Office of the Chief Economist, Bown will work "to strengthen the Department’s ability to conduct economic analysis on high-priority issues, and to advance U.S. interests on foreign policy issues which have an economic dimension," the agency's announcement said.
Bown, who hosted a trade podcast, served in the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2010 to 2011 and worked at the World Bank, advising member countries on international trade issues.
