Trade Lawyer Predicts Laura Murphy's Work at DHS Will Increase UFLPA Enforcement

Customs and trade lawyer Adrienne Braumiller, founder of the Braumiller Law Group in Texas, said she expects forced labor detentions to increase as a result of the hiring of Laura Murphy to advise Robert Silvers, the DHS's undersecretary for strategy, policy and plans.

Braumiller, who was interviewed on the podcast "The Frictionless Supply Chain," called Murphy a genius. "I feel like with her knowledge base and her understanding, probably you’re going to see an increase in enforcement," Braumiller said. "It’ll be interesting to see what shakes out from her involvement."

Murphy headed a research group at Sheffield Hallam University that identified ties to Uyghur forced labor in cotton, PVC, solar panels and auto parts, and is on loan from the Sheffield, U.K., university to the U.S. government.
