Texas Public Safety Dept. Lifts Truck Inspections at Southern Border

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) ended its 100% truck inspections at midnight Oct. 13 for "certain ports of entry" on the southern border, the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America said in an Oct. 16 email. The inspections affected the "Laredo-Colombia Solidarity Bridge, as well as the ports of Ysleta and Marcelino Serna, and the Bridge of the Americas." The inspections began Oct. 12 (see 2310120058). The inspections also included the Tornillo Port (see 2310130059).

CBP extended its hours at Colombia Bridge on Oct. 14-15 to "catch up" on the traffic from the inspections, the NCBFAA said. The hours were "6:00 a.m. CT and end at 4 p.m. CT" for both of those days, NCBFAA said.

CBP said in an Oct. 15 statement it would "resume vehicle processing operations" at Bridge 1 in Eagle Pass and release updates if there were any changes. CBP directed us to Texas DPS for comments on the southern border inspections. Texas DPS did not respond to our request for comment.
