WTO Members Discuss Ways to Boost Transparency in Agriculture
World Trade Organization members, meeting Sept. 27-28, swapped views on how to ramp up transparency on other members' agricultural measures. Members of the Committee on Agriculture suggested "streamlining and simplifying the current export subsidy notification requirements" and mulled over a proposal from the committee chair to specifically address transparency, WTO said.

Members "emphasized the need to address duplication in the current transparency requirements," the WTO said. Costa Rica also made a submission with specific suggestions for modifying the existing notification format for reporting tariff quota administration practices.
During the meeting, members also discussed 26 new farm policy issues, which included "market access, domestic support and export competition." Additionally, the African Group introduced a submission on the role of technology transfer in "increasing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming and boosting digital trade in Africa." The group called for greater international cooperation to "scale up research and development, capacity building and information sharing."
