Brazil Updates List of Tariff-Exempt Capital, IT Goods
Brazil recently removed 1,443 items from its list of foreign capital goods and information technology and telecommunications goods subject to duty-free treatment under its Ex-Tarifario regime, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council reported Aug. 28. The goods are classified in Harmonized System chapters 84, 85, 86 and 90. HKTDC said most of the goods were removed for "inactivity reasons."

Brazil also modified a range of exceptions that apply to the common external tariff it imposes as part of the South American trading bloc Mercosur. The change affects certain food supplements, chromium sulphates, scrap polymers, styrene-butadiene-styrene rubber, paper, mobile devices, surgical instruments, cheese and more.
The country also established or renewed tariff‑rate quotas on several goods, including certain infant formula, printing inks, "food preparations," yarn, animal feed preparations, PET film and more.
