GobiMin 'Pleased' Canada Declined to Pursue Forced Labor Investigation
Canadian mining company GobiMin is "pleased" that the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) has "declined to pursue an investigation of GobiMin’s activities and that it recognized that GobiMin engaged in good faith with the CORE’s initial assessment," a company spokesperson said in an Aug. 22 email.

CORE announced last week it had received a forced labor complaint against GobiMin but would not be opening an investigation because the company sold its former subsidiary in Xinjiang in 2022 (see 2308210048). CORE said it will recommend a "responsible exit policy."
"GobiMin is considering the CORE’s recommendations for a responsible exit policy, which it believes that it has already followed," the company said.
