China Issues Report on US Compliance With WTO Rules
China's Ministry of Commerce on Aug. 11 released a report covering "WTO Compliance of the United States." The report says China is concerned about U.S. policies and how they affect the World Trade Organization's rules-based trading system. A spokesperson for the ministry said China is using the report to call on the U.S. to abide by its commitments to the trade body, according to an unofficial translation.

Responding to a question on whether the report is a response to the U.S. accusing China of violating trade rules, the spokesperson, in an unofficial translation, said the U.S. has disregarded multilateral rules, implemented "unilateral trade bullying" and "disrupted global industries." This has weakened the multilateral trading system and the WTO's reform process, the ministry said.
The report includes an overall assessment on U.S. compliance with WTO rules, a specific accounting of China's concerns and efforts by China and other nations to address U.S. actions. The report cited the U.S. "Buy America" policy, intellectual property rights, export controls, trade remedies, economic sanctions and investment reviews.
