EU Adds Entries to Belarus Sanctions List, Imposes Further Export Controls
The European Council on Aug. 3 added another 38 individuals and three entities to its Belarus sanctions regime, further extending export bans to cover goods for the firearms, aviation and space industry. The listings include "penitentiary officials responsible for the torture and ill-treatment of detainees," members of the judiciary, cogs of civil society and journalists, the council said.

The restrictions also hit state-owned enterprises that have either taken punitive action against or terminated their employees for participating in peaceful protests, the council added. Another listed entity includes state-owned oil and chemical conglomerate Belneftekhim.
The export controls element of the sanctions includes a ban on shipments of goods and technology used in the aviation and space industry, among them aircraft engines and drones, along with a prohibition of sale, supply, transfer or export of firearms. Further restrictions were imposed on goods used by the Russian military, including "semiconductor devices, electronic integrated circuits, manufacturing and testing equipment, photographic cameras and optical components." The council also extended the export ban on dual-use goods.
