WTO Plastics Dialogue Discusses Trade Issues, Welcomes US as Co-Sponsor
Participants at the March 13 meeting of the World Trade Organization's plastics dialogue discussed the 13th Ministerial Conference and the possibility of slashing plastics pollution, the WTO said. The U.S. also joined as a co-sponsor of the initiative, the WTO announced.

Many members of the dialogue -- which aims to promote sustainable trade in plastic alternatives -- said MC13's outcomes should include a "political statement highlighting commonly identified priorities as well as a call for action, voluntary pledges of domestic actions, and collective efforts in plastics reduction," the WTO said. MC13 is set for the week of Feb. 26 next year in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The WTO also should identify harmful plastic goods targeted by trade measures and recommend a set of Harmonized System codes to the World Customs Organization for plastic goods substitutes, the WTO said. The next dialogue meeting is set for April 27.
